    Description

VERY UNIQUE CACHED COVER - FRONT & BACK - A TRIBUTE TO MARINE GUNNERY SERGEANT CARLOS N. HATHCOCK,
RECIPIENT OF THE SILVER STAR FOR RISKING HIS OWN LIFE ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY.
HE WAS A SNIPER IN CONNECTION WITH COMBAT OPERATIONS AGAINST A FANATICAL ARMED ENEMY IN THE REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM. BY HIS COURAGE, AGGRESSIVE FIGHTING SPIRIT, AND STEADFAST DEVOTION TO DUTY, HE PROVED TO BE A TREMENDOUS ASSET TO THE 7TH MARINE REGIMENT, 1ST MARINE DIVISION.
THE NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY PLACED A ,000.00 BOUNTY ON HATHCOCK'S LIFE FOR KILLING NUMEROUS ENEMY NVA SOLDIERS. HATHCOCK KILLED EVERY ENEMY MARKSMAN WHO SOUGHT TO COLLECT THE BOUNTY.
DURING TWO TOURS OF DUTY IN VIETNAM, HE HAD 93 CONFIRMED KILLS, AND OVER 200 MORE PROBABLES. HIS LONGEST CONFIRMED KILL WAS 2,500 YARDS. A ONE POINT, HATHCOCK "TOOK-OUT" A NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY GENERAL WITH A SINGLE SHOT.
ACTUALLY THE SILVER STAR WAS AWARDED FOR HIS ACT, ON SEPTEMBER 16,1969, OF SAVING THE LIVES OF SEVEN  FELLOW MARINES AFTER THEIR AMPHIBIOUS TRACTOR (AMTRAC) ON WHICH THEY WERE RIDING STRUCK A LANDMINE. HATHCOCK WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS, BUT CAME TO IN TIME TO RACE BACK THROUGH THE FLAMES TO RESCUE HIS INJURED COMRADES. FRONT CACHET SHOWS PHOTO OF THE GUNNY WITH HIS SNIPER RIFLE, THE SILVER STAR, PURPLE HEART, THREE OF HIS OTHER MEDALS, THE USMC FLAG, AND TWO RELATIVE INSIGNIA. ALSO, A
