Description
This is a new(not rebuilt)
hydroboost and mount set up for a '67-'69 Camaro, this will also fit the '64-'72 Chevelle and '68-'74 Nova. It will bolt straight to the booster bracket mounting bolt holes in your firewall. It is adjusted to be installed with the hydroboost inverted for greater valve cover clearance.
Clevis rod end included, advise me on purchase if you need a different rod end.
You do not need to cut the firewall studs to use this hydroboost.
Master cylinder shown in installation picture is not included.
***The installed hydroboost shown in the pic has a mount built on the OEM booster angle and was requested set up like that to clear the turbo ducting.
***Mounts are currently being built on 6* less angle than the OEM vacuum boosters so that master cylinders other than the late model Vette can be used and still clear the hood. If hood clearance is not an issue I can build the mounts on the steeper OEM angle if requested. These hydroboost will be a direct bolt in on your vehicle and the brake rod will attach to the power brake location on your brake pedal for the correct pedal ratio. Systems that use less angle in the mount and attach the rod to manual brake location on the pedal give a shorter throw of pedal and what my customers have told me is a higher and "twitchy" pedal. Using the correct power brake location on the pedal is what I encourage and is something you should expect when making such dramatic improvements to your braking system. Feel free to consult with me prior making a purchase, requesting design changes or sorting what master cylinder options you are exploring. I always have things in development or in testing that I don't always have time to list or add on my website but I do have time to communicate with you so expect rapid responses.
***For inverted hydroboost the return nipple will point towards the motor and if you require greater clearance for the return line y
ou can search on ebay for the AN-6 "spittier fitting" and use that to replace the return nipple. When using black rubber return line get a 90* pushlock AN-6 fitting and install that on the return line.
If you are using stainless braid line then just use a return line with the 90* AN-6 fitting at the hydroboost end.
***Regarding use of replacement return hose fittings on the booster:
When the booster is inverted or clocked on the mount for clearance to the motor the return nipple points the hose at the header or into the inner fender depending on the vehicle and set up. If you don't use a banjo fitting there and use an AN-6 Spittier fitting then you need to know to before you install it to take a #35 drill bit (or 0.110") and make sure it passes through the orifice before you use it and drill it if it doesn't. 0.110" is OEM ID for Bosch return fittings and anything undersize can cause slow pedal return.

****Allow me to dispel some myths...
#1
There simply are no vacuum boosters
that will give you the same dramatic increase in line pressure at the caliper that hydroboost will provide. #2 The largest vacuum booster you could possibly fit would only give you about 1,700 psi at the front caliper and that is if you had room to fit it and the engine produced the vacuum it was designed for. If you have a low vacuum motor and a 7" dual diaphragm booster (like a customer of mine with a built 5.7 Hemi who tested line pressure with a gauge) you will only get 1,000 psi at the front and 800 at the rear calipers. You need about 1,600 psi up front for disc. After installing my hydroboost he tested it at what you can see in my last pic above. Got it? ;) Thats an increase of 1,400psi at the front caliper at idle. 2,400psi..... yes, your pedal will be lighter;) John's car is a '37 Plymouth Tudor and he hauls a trailer for his two Harleys. His comment to me after the installation of the hydroboost was "this thing could stop freight trains". Thanks for the testing, pics and feedback John! It's what dispels myths. #3 Installing a hydroboost does not just make your pedal easier to press, ask anyone who has hydroboost installed. I have had a lot of customers tell me that swapping to hydroboost was the best modification they made to their vehicle and should have been the first. Think about it for a minute.... is it really going to help your braking if you switch from 11" disc to 13" and go from single piston calipers to four piston if you still are only going to have 1,000 psi at the front caliper when you need at least 1,600 psi? Yes, the braking would improve over what you had but you still don't have the line pressure and only changing the booster to hydroboost is going to give you 2,400 psi. To my knowledge, not even electric boosters will give you that much pressure and 2,600 psi is obtainable with the right master cylinder.
Installation of hydraulically boosted brake systems will increase your line pressure up to a maximum of 2,600psi
(as tested and I have a gauge reading to demonstrate pressure at idle)
depending on the master cylinder you select and the other components in your brake system. Consequently your brake system must be in top shape to handle increases from normal 1,100-1,600psi.
You will need to replace your existing brake master cylinder to use this hydroboost. The '77-'80 Corvette power brake MC is a frequent choice due to the low profile that allows for hood clearance and the shallow dimple on the piston for the booster input rod. The OEM MC will not be compatible due to height and a deeper indent on the piston requiring a longer input rod. No pressure hoses or port fittings are provided with this hydroboost. The ports are 18mm pressure in from the pump and 16mm pressure out to the steering box. ***Be sure the power steering pump you are using will be adequate to run with hydroboost which typically require 1,300-1,500psi and 2.5-3.5gpm. This hydroboost is not designed to be operated with power steering pumps exceeding 1,500psi. It is compatible with ABS. For anyone running a power steering rack that is designed for lower pressure and flow a Heidt's valve can be added in line to the rack to dump pressure and those valves are adjustable.
If you have a different vehicle you'd like to set up with a custom firewall mount just shoot me a message and I'll work with you if I think it can be done. The bolt spacing for the master cylinder is 3.4" and if you need a custom adapter to fit a 3.2" spaced Dodge or Ford master cylinder I have those available, and I have used master cylinders available also. Just ask....;) I can help you sort out what you need for your hot rod or built rock buggy using the largest dual piston calipers.
